2026 100 Day Project – Days 57-63
As we approach the end of the semester and everyone at school is stressed and tired, the topic of retirement inevitably comes up in the hall amongst the faculty. Once we vent, we’ll all struggle through these last couple weeks, take a few weeks off before summer term begins, and then be back at it full of energy and ready to go the first week of June. I always say that my retirement goal is to fully embrace irresponsibility. I think I was practicing what that might feel like with the posting, or not posting, of last week’s collages.
I did well with getting them all done daily last week, but when it came time to post here over the past weekend, I flat out didn’t want to take the time to do it. So, I didn’t. Instead, I played my guitar, went to see Kinky Boots, slept later than usual, went with friends to get snow cones, and binge watched the first season of The Pitt. In my defense, that was all after doing one responsible thing on Friday; I had my routine colonoscopy.
Binge watching The Pitt was actually doctor prescribed. Really! It was! One of my students is a retired physician. Somehow we got to talking about TV shows and The Pitt came up. I said that I feel like the only one who hasn’t seen it yet but that it was on my list. He told me that to get the most out of it, I needed to binge watch the entire season because it all takes place over a single 12-hour shift. He said that if you want a true picture of what ER staff faces each day, you need to watch it “in a single shift.” I did not do that. I managed several multi-hour sessions, though.
As a medical show junkie, I most certainly could have spent an entire twelve hours watching, but I haven’t reached that level of irresponsibility yet. I did stop to ensure that I was adequatel;y prepped for school this week and prepare a meal or two. Oh, and I did do some laundry. So I guess I’m not quite irresponsible enough yet to retire.
I feel like there is some kind of shift in this week’s meditations. I don’t know if that is a subconscious creative thing or if it is because I am getting down to my “lesser” favorite pieces in my basket of “scraps.”
Let me know if any of this week’s meditative collages speak to you.

Hi Kris, good read and you managed to crank out another week of amazing art pieces. My favor is #61. Blue and green always speaks to my heart. I like the balance that I feel from this piece, in the way you’ve layered your pieces of paper, also the placement of the leaves, it all feels so balanced. And, then there’s the flower, I see a gentle movement by the shape of the petals, which includes lines and circles, opposites— but also complimentary of each other. I really like this piece!
